I am now forced to re-examine my entire childhood, one in which I thought I was Gumshoe Ben thanks to my uncanny ability to solve Encyclopedia Brown mysteries (he threw the fight because getting knocked out wouldn’t cause him to fall face-down! BAM CONVICTED (this was an actual Encyclopedia Brown story that I remember (from 4th grade, I swear I didn’t just look it up right now because that would be silly and would have meant I devoted WAY TOO MUCH TIME to this post))). Yet another instance where TV Tropes has chipped away at my delusional sense of self-worth.
